Teachers' training in the effective use of technology in the learning environment

Undoubtedly, technology can do a lot in the classroom if it used appropriately and effectively. For this to ba achieved, teachers need to be well trained in order to become capable of makin geffective use of technology in the learning environment. Unfortunately, teachers are not provided with the essential training in the effective use of technology and consequently, cannot make use of it in their instruction.

Training of the teachers is essential for a variety of reasons. Training will make teachers acquire the necessary skills in making effective use of technology. It will make them capable of integrating technology into the curriculum in the right ways that will provide significant outcomes. But training does not mean just learning how to use software and hardware. It mostly means learning the strategies for integrating technology in the learning activities and using the appropriate methods for instruction.

Training of the educators cannot be limited to single lessons or one-shot workshops. Rather, training must be ongoing and must have a long-time frame because teachers learn best the new information if they have a long period available to practice what they have known.

Moreover, if efficient and sufficient training is going to be provided to teachers, then funds are necesasry. The part of the budget that will be provided for training the teachers must be a great one and therefore, those holding the reins of the educational system must make the necessary steps for providing those funds.

  2. This is an issue that deserves of attention. What training? Teachers today are not provided with the necessary training in order to become competent to use technology in their classrooms. And from which this begins? Of course from the teacher education institutions and universities which do not provide sufficient training to the undergraduate students. They must begin training pre-service teachers in order to help them acquire the necessary skills for integrating and using technology effectively in their classrooms when they will begin teaching. It is not enough to simply know how to open the computer and know how to handle software. Teachers must be trained in the ways and strategies that will help integrate technology effectively in learning activities and in general, into the curriculum. It is time that teachers realize the necessity for their training and begin demanding it from the Ministry of Education and from all those who are in charge of the educational system.
